Pena Palace, Portugal

This is the much talked about royal palace. The palace stands majestically on top of a hill in the Sao Pedro area near the city of Sintra. Standing atop a hill, the red and yellow-lit palace mesmerizes anyone. It is considered the most beautiful structure in Europe.

Initially there was a religious ashram here. In the 18th century the ashram was completely destroyed by earthquake and lightning. After becoming king in 1838, Prince Ferdinand decided to renovate the ashram. Amelia, the last queen of Portugal, spent her last days in this palace.

Topkapi Palace, Turkey

Topkapi Palace was not only the residence of the Ottoman sultans, but also served as the administrative and educational center of Istanbul. This historical royal palace is located in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. Shahenshah Muhammad II of the Ottoman Empire started the construction of this palace in the middle of the fifteenth century.

This palace existed as the residence of the Ottoman Sultans for almost 400 years (1465-1856). After the fall of the Ottoman Empire in 1921, Topkapi Palace became a museum of the imperial period on April 3, 1924 by official decree.

Lakshmi Vilas, India

There are several palaces across India. Their architecture will impress anyone. Lakshmi Vilas is located in Barada, Gujarat state of India. Basically a huge palace has been built by combining many palaces. Lakshmi Vilas is four times bigger than Buckingham Palace of British Queen Elizabeth II.

Sometimes musical performances and other cultural programs are held in the Durbar Hall of this palace. A mirror-like face can be seen on the floor of the hall. The windows are made of Belgian glass and the walls are made of mosaics.

Luxembourg Palace, France

This palace is located in Paris, the capital of France. Designed by world-shaking French architect Salomon de Brossy. The palace was built for Marie de Medicis, the mother of Louis XIII, King of France. The construction of the palace was completed between 1615 and 1645 AD.

Jean Chalgrin later renovated the palace and declared it a building for legislators. Alphonse de Gisours redesigned the palace between 1835 and 1856. In 1946, the Paris Peace Conference was held at the Luxembourg Palace.
