Basically Tilicho Lake Trek can be completed in 4 days. A few years ago, however, it would have taken about 10 days. At that time there was no car traffic till Manang. Many used to start the trek from Chame Village.

However, before starting the trek, permission must be taken from the Nepal Tourism Board. Per head will cost around 4000 Nepalese rupees. They will ask you for health insurance while taking permission.

90% of trekkers on this route are Europeans, Australians and almost everyone has health insurance. A few copies of passport size photos and photocopies of passport should be kept. After getting the permission, you will leave Kathmandu for Besishahar the next morning.

It will take 7/8 hours to reach Besisahar from Kathmandu. If you go by car, you will spend 10 thousand rupees and if you go by local bus, you will spend 600 rupees per head.

The bus leaves by 5 am. After 1 night stay in Besisahar leave for Manang next morning. Share jeep can go to Manang for Rs 2000 per head but you have to bargain a lot. Going to Manang will pass several checkposts, enter all of them.
